It symbolizes the structure of decayed leafs
and plants in peat. The structure is also an abstract detail of the peatlands as we know them today.
You can see the fine structure of a leaf skeleton,
which abstracts towards the peat water channels and the allotment of the peat fields. In a way you can read it as a map of the past...
